Stephan Hein

Stephan Hein , also Latinized as Stephanus Heinius (born June 24, 1590 in Rostock ; † June 2, 1643 ibid) was a German Lutheran theologian and philologist.

Life

Stephan Hein was a son of the Rostock professor, Mecklenburg council, syndicus and mayor Friedrich Hein (1533-1604) and his wife Anna, the daughter of the councilor in Rostock Albrecht Dobbin. From 1604 he studied theology at the universities in Rostock, Gießen and again in Rostock. This was followed by semesters at the University of Basel with Johann Buxtorf . After 1620 he became ducal professor of the Hebrew language at the University of Rostock . In 1624 he was dean of the philosophy faculty. In 1643 he was rector of the University of Rostock and senior of the philosophy faculty.

Stephan Hein was married to Margarethe Forstenow, the daughter of Rostock council relative Conrad Forstenow.
