Friedrich Hein , also Friedrich Heine , Friedrich Heinius (born March 5, 1533 in Neubrandenburg , † March 18, 1604 in Rostock ) was a German legal scholar, university professor and mayor.

Life

Friedrich Hein came from an old Neubrandenburg council family. He was born in 1533 as the son of the Neubrandenburg mayor Jacob Hein and his wife, the Neubrandenburg mayor's daughter Katharina, nee. Richard. After attending school in his hometown, he studied from 1547 at the University of Rostock with Arnold Burenius , then in Frankfurt (Oder) with Hieronymus Schurff and from 1550 in Wittenberg with Philipp Melanchthon and Johann Schneidewein . In 1553 he attended the university in Leuven. A subsequent educational trip took him to France and on to Italy for four years, where he worked in Pisa in 1560 as a Dr. iur. PhD.

Back in Germany, he first worked at the Imperial Court of Justice in Speyer before he was appointed full professor of law (decretals) at Rostock University by the Mecklenburg Duke in 1563/64. In 1570 he was appointed to the Princely Council and also assessor of the newly established consistory. In 1574 he gave up these offices because "the practical efforts were overloaded". In 1568 and 1574 he was rector of the university. In 1576 he was elected councilor in Rostock and in 1578 after the departure of Johannes Borcholten to the council syndic of the city. In 1591 he was elected mayor . He held this office until his death.

From 1564 the Friedrich Hein family was married to Anna Dobbin, the daughter of the Rostock councilor Albrecht Dobbin. The marriage had six sons and five daughters. In a commemorative speech given on March 25, 1605, which was attributed to the sons and sons-in-law, the following were named:
