Stephan Hlawa

Stephan Hlawa also Stefan Hlawa (born February 2, 1896 in Vienna ; † June 5, 1977 there ) was an Austrian set and costume designer, painter and graphic artist.

Most of Hlawa's career took place at the Vienna Burgtheater , for which he worked again from 1932 to 1945 and from 1948 and for which he designed over 300 sets. 1945-48 he worked at the Innsbruck State Theater . He also worked for the Theater an der Wien , the Vienna Volkstheater ( Jacques Offenbach's Die Schöne Helena , 1949), the Vienna Volksoper , the State Opera and the Salzburg Festival - in total he created more than 200 sets.

In 1971 he was entrusted with the artistic design of the arrivals hall at Vienna-Schwechat airport .

Hlawa received numerous awards, such as the City of Vienna Prize for Fine Arts in 1956 and the Grillparzer Ring in 1968.
