Stephan Holstein
Stephan Holstein (* 1963 in Tübingen ) is a German jazz musician ( clarinet , also saxophone).
Holstein has been playing the clarinet since he was 11 years old and was tutored by Karl-Heinz Hahn, principal clarinetist with the Munich Philharmonic .
Stephan Holstein plays with Tizian Jost (piano) and Thomas Stabenow (bass) in a trio and also with Michael Keul (drums) and Wolfgang Schlüter (vibraphone) in a quintet. He had other appearances with numerous bands and projects. In 1995 he was awarded the Bavarian State Prize for Promotion of Culture. The discographer Tom Lord lists him in the field of jazz between 1992 and 2001 with participation in eight recording sessions, including a. with the Chamber Orchestra Schloss Werneck & The Jazz Age Quintet around Rainer Glas ( Happy Birthday, Mr. Gershwin!, 1998), Helmut Nieberle & Cordes Sauvages as well as the Uli Fiedler Trio. He also recorded with Klaus Weiss , Al Jones , Christian Willisohn , Wolfgang Lackerschmid and Ludwig Seuss .
