Stephan Kersten

Stephan Kersten (born May 26, 1954 in Munich ) is a German lawyer. From 2010 to 2020 he was President of the Bavarian Administrative Court (BayVGH).

Life

Kersten studied law . He then worked at the Bavarian State Ministry for State Development and Environmental Issues . On August 1, 1983, he moved to the Munich Administrative Court as a trial reporter . On April 15, 1985 he was transferred to the Bavarian Ministry of the Interior . After working in the field at the Dachau District Office , he returned to the Munich Administrative Court on December 1, 1992 as a judge . Since November 29, 1994 he has been a judge and since June 1, 2005 presiding judge at the Bavarian Administrative Court . In addition to his judicial work in the 24th Senate, he represented the administrative court externally as press spokesman from 2003 to September 2007 . In 2007 he was appointed Vice President.

On July 13, 2010, the Bavarian Council of Ministers appointed him President of the Administrative Court, succeeding the resigning Rolf Hüffer . He took office on October 1, 2010. Associated with the office was membership in the administrative board of Bayerischer Rundfunk .

Since 2005 he has also been a judge at the Bavarian Constitutional Court .

When Kersten retired on January 31, 2020, he was succeeded by the previous President of the Munich Administrative Court, Andrea Breit, as President of the Bavarian Administrative Court.
