Stephan Rudas

Stephan Rudas (born May 27, 1944 in Budapest ; † June 19, 2010 in Vienna ) was an Austrian specialist in psychiatry and neurology and for many years head of the Institute for Psychosocial Research .

Life

Stephan Rudas was born in Budapest. He moved with his parents to Vienna, where he attended high school. He later studied medicine and trained as a specialist in psychiatry.

From 1973 to 1986 Rudas worked as a consulting doctor and psychotherapist for probation service. His main job was from 1975 to 1980 as an assistant doctor at the Psychiatric University Clinic.

Rudas was appointed Psychiatry Commissioner for the City of Vienna in 1977 by the Vienna City Councilor for Health Alois Stacher . At the end of the seventies he designed the Viennese psychiatry reform. He headed the resulting psychosocial service until his retirement at the end of 2009.

On January 19, 2010, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Psychosocial Services (PSD) and to say goodbye to his top position, he received the Golden City Hall Man award .

He is the father of two children, a daughter and a son; his daughter Laura was federal manager of the SPÖ .

Stephan Rudas died at the age of 66 after a long and serious illness and was buried at the Döblinger Friedhof . In 2011, Stephan-Rudas-Platz in Vienna- Penzing (14th district) was named after him.
