Stephan Schulze

Stephan Jochen Schulze (* around 1970 ) is a German jazz musician ( trombone , tuba , also flugelhorn , composition, orchestral direction).

Schulze studied musicology and journalism at the University of Münster as well as trombone and tuba at the Detmold and Münster University of Music a. a. with Erik van Lier , Jiggs Whigham and Bobby Burgess . From 1989 to 1992 he was a member of the JugendJazzOrchester NRW ; From 1990 to 1993 he was also a member of the Federal Jazz Orchestra under Peter Herbolzheimer .

As a freelance musician, he worked with the WDR Big Band , NDR Bigband and Ensemble Modern . Since 2007 he has been a member of the Talking Horns quartet , for which he also composes; he is involved in his CDs Born to Be Horn and Tales from the Bläserwald . He works as a theater musician for the Münster Municipal Theaters. He can be heard on albums by Götz Alsmann , Caroline Thon and Max Mutzke .

Since 1995 he has been a lecturer at the Bielefeld Music and Art School, where he leads the big band there, with which he won several first prizes at state level. Since 2006 he has been part of the management team of the JugendJazzOrchester NRW, for which he also arranges and composes.
