Stephan von Neidenburg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Stephan von Neidenburg (* around 1412 in Neidenburg ; † December 1495 Löbau , buried in Kulmsee Cathedral ) was Bishop of Kulm .

Stephan was matriculated at the University of Vienna in 1435 and soon afterwards worked as a notary . After he was ordained a priest , he became secretary to the bishops of Pomesania in 1442 . From 1448 he was in the service of the Grand Master of the Teutonic Order and received various pastoral posts and canonicals . He took care of the interests of the Polish king and the bishop of Kulm, Vinzenz Kielbassa , which temporarily cost him his Frauenburg canon, but in 1479 he became a bishop in Kulm. In 1481 he was ordained bishop in Löbau . From 1490, due to Stephen's old age, several considerations were made of appointing a coadjutor to his side, but he remained in office until his death in mid-December 1495.

Simon Grunau's Prussian Chronicle describes him as an affable man who enjoys dancing and who also made a name for himself as an enthusiastic coin collector .
