Fire Force ( Japanese 炎炎 ノ 消防隊 , En'en no Shōbōtai ) is a manga series by Atsushi Ōkubo that has been released in Japan since 2015. It can be classified into the genres of Action, Comedy , Etchi and Shōnen and has been translated into several languages. In 2019, an anime series about the manga came on Japanese television.

In Tokyo, the year 198 of the solar calendar, people live in fear that their fellow human beings might suddenly catch fire and turn into flaming beings that set their surroundings on fire. Special fire brigade units were set up to counter this phenomenon. The youngster Shinra Kusakabe ( 森羅 日下 部 ) joins the 8th unit as a new member . He has the ability to inflame his feet and move at lightning speed. Together with the other members of the unit, he now fights against the flaming creatures and tries to find their cause. He also wants to find out how his family was killed twelve years ago.

The manga has been published in individual chapters in Weekly Shōnen Magazine from Kodansha in Japan since September 23, 2015 (issue 43/2015) . The story has appeared in 17 anthologies so far. The seventh volume sold 78,000 times in the first two weeks.

A German translation of the series has been published by Tokyopop since January 2017, with ten volumes so far. Kodansha USA publishes an English translation, a Spanish version is published by Norma Editorial , an Italian and a Portuguese version by Planet Manga and a Chinese version by Tong Li Publishing in Taiwan.

Anime adaptation

Directed by Yuki Yase , David Production produced a 24-part adaptation of the manga as an anime series for Japanese television. The main writer was Yamato Haishima , who also wrote the scripts with Yoriko Tomita . The character design comes from Hideyuki Morioka and the artistic direction was with Yoshito Takamine .

The broadcast began on July 5, 2019 on TBS and MBS . At the same time, the anime will be released internationally via streaming, with German subtitles on the Wakanim platform , which also shows it with Russian and French subtitles. Platforms like Crunchyroll , Funimation Entertainment , Anime Digital Network and Sato Company show them in Latin America and in English, Spanish and Portuguese. The broadcast of the third episode on July 19, 2019 was canceled and postponed after an arson attack on Kyōto Animation the day before .

The series will be released on June 22, 2020 on Peppermint Anime on DVD and Blu-ray with German synchronization. Animax on Demand has been offering the first two episodes in German since May 21, 2020 and two more will follow on Thursdays.

The music for the series was composed by Kenichiro Suehiro . The opening credits are underlaid with the song Inferno by Mrs. Green Apple, the closing song is veil by Keina Suda.
