Peppermint Anime is a German publisher of anime series and films. It is headquartered in Munich . Animes are distributed on DVD , Blu-ray Disc or as video-on-demand on the streaming platforms Wakanim , Netflix and Animax on Demand . Peppermint Anime is also showing some anime films before a disc release in selected cinemas, both with German dubbing and in the original sound with German subtitles.
history
Peppermint Anime was created in 2012 as a label by Peppermint Enterprises Ltd. & Co. KG . In 2013, Peppermint Anime started the anime series Valvrave the Liberator, the first simulcast by a German anime publisher on the Vimeo platform . In the years that followed, other simulcasts followed, including at MyVideo . Peppermint Enterprises spun off the label as a separate company in 2015, so Peppermint Anime GmbH was created as a joint venture between Peppermint Enterprises and Aniplex . In 2016, Peppermint launched its video-on-demand platform AkibaPass.
AkibaPass
The video-on-demand platform AkibaPass was started in 2016 by Peppermint Anime and used the VoD software from Wakanim . It was aimed at an audience from German-speaking countries. In addition to the simulcasts and other own titles, titles from other publishers such as Universum Anime and FilmConfect were also offered on this platform . The simulcasts from Peppermint Anime were shown in the fall season 2017 on the French VoD platform Wakanim, which expanded into German-speaking countries. As of July 31, 2018, AkibaPass' streaming service was discontinued and its Peppermint anime portfolio was transferred to Wakanim. Since AkibaPass also had titles from other publishers and the licenses had to be renegotiated, the users were reimbursed for the money for the VoD titles they bought. AkibaPass has been converted into a shop and event platform.
AkibaPass Festival
Since 2015, Peppermint Anime has organized the AkibaPass Festival annually, which tours through cinemas in major German cities and Vienna in January. Until the renaming in 2017, the event was still known as the Peppermint Anime Festival . In addition to Peppermint Anime, other publishers such as B. Universe Anime Films at the festival. In 2018, 14 films, including numerous German and Austrian premieres, were presented in 10 cities. Another city in Austria has been announced for the festival in 2019 with Pasching. The festival takes place in 11 German and Austrian cities.
