But arbitrariness and violence have prevailed in the city since Minister Honest manipulated the young emperor in his favor. The powerful exploit, torture and kill the poor for their amusement. Tatsumi and his comrades are first separated in a robbery, then Tatsumi is outwitted and loses his money and, like his comrades before, falls into the clutches of one of the rich families. But he escapes with the help of Night Raid , a group of hit men. These consist of the swordsman Akame, the sheele fighting with scissors, the fighter Bulat, the sniper Mine, the Lubbock who kills with threads, Leone with animal skills and the leader Najenda. They take Tatsumi into their group, who belongs to the underground movement fighting against Minister Honest.

Many of them have been lost over time and not everyone can control a teigu's power. After a fight with Honest's men, in which Bulat died, Tatsumi receives his teigu. To counter the threat posed by Night Raid, Honest General Esdeath instructs himself to assemble a force of Teigu porters to take action against Night Raid.
