Stephanie Cecilia Bukovec (born September 22, 1995 in Toronto , Ontario , Canada ) is a Canadian- Croatian soccer player .

Youth and education

Bukovec grew up in Etobicoke with her parents, twin sister Sophie and older siblings Matthew and Natalie . From 2009 to 2013 she attended the Bishop Allen Academy , in Queensway - Humber , a suburb of Etobicoke. In 2013, she enrolled at Oakland University , where she studied criminal justice. This was followed in 2015 for a year at Belmont University , studying law enforcement .

Club career

Bukovec started her career in her Canadian homeland, at the age of eight with Thornhill SC in the Summer House League. She then moved to Ajax FC and led the club to the runner-up in 2010 and 2011, and in 2010 she also won the silver medal in the Ontario Cup . On the side she ran between 2009 and 2013 for the Allen Cardinals, the athletic team of the Bishop Allen Academy. In autumn 2012, the Ajax goalkeeper played for Etobicoke Energy on loan for three months with SunWomCom.

In 2013 she began studying and ran two seasons in the NCAA Division 2, for the Oakland Golden Grizzlies and then in 2015, one year for the Belmont Bruins. During this time she played in the semester break, from 2013 to 2015 for Kitchener-Waterloo United in the USL W-League and then in 2016 in the Ontario League 1 for Vaughan Azzuri , where she was voted Goalkeeper of the Year in November 2016. In the spring of 2017 after successfully graduating from university, Bukovec said goodbye to Europe and signed with Töcksfors IF on March 17, 2017 in Sweden .

After the end of the 2017 season in Sweden , Bukovec moved to the Eredivisie at PEC Zwolle , where she made her debut on November 10, 2017 against PSV / FC Eindhoven in a 3-1 win. On July 25, 2018, she moved to Iceland to Þór / KA , where she made her debut in a 2-0 win against IB Vestmannaeyja two days later with a clean sheet .

International career

On July 22nd, 2017, Bukovec was called up for the first time in the Croatian national soccer team for a friendly match against the Jordanian national soccer team. She made her debut on October 19, 2017, in a World Cup qualifier against the Hungarian women's national football team in a 2-2 draw. Bukovec has since played in two international matches and conceded six goals.

Natalie continued to play football as an adult, first at McMaster University and then on a semi-professional level for the Toronto Lady Lynx . Brother Matthew became a basketball player and ran for Wilfred Laurier University and George Brown College , leading the Humber Hawks, 2015 and 2016 to silver medal, the Ontario Collage Athletics Association (OCAA). Twin sister Sophie, became a volleyball player , where she made it to the U-18 national team. Stephanie Bukovec actively played basketball in her youth, as well as in high school .

Freestyler

Bukovec has been part of the Freestyle Football Team of Canada since 2013 and performed in the context of promo dates for the U-20 Women's World Cup 2014 and FIFA Women's World Cup 2015 in Canada .
