Stereoface is an English-speaking band from Graz , Austria .

history

The band was founded in 2004 by songwriter Paul Pfleger (son of Ewald Pfleger ) (vocals, guitar), Benny Musenbichler (drums), Nino Kadletz (guitar) and Thomas Hierzberger (bass). In 2008 the band released their self-titled debut album with Lukas Schneeberger on bass (member since 2005) on monkey.music / Hoanzl in Austria and Germany (Broken Silence), which for the first time brought the group greater attention, polarizing reviews and praising criticism. In the same year, the band was portrayed by filmmakers Rudi Dolezal and Hannes Rossacher for the ORF documentary film series “ Weltberühmt in Österreich ”, in the episode “The Scenes of the Scene” .

With the EP 15 Minutes in Stereo , released in 2009 , the band gained further national and international recognition. a. through heavy rotation on FM4 and TV airplay on gotv. The self-produced music video for the song As the Day Is Long with a high-speed camera was awarded prizes (including Rockin 'Movies Award from the State of Styria) and enabled the band to be invited to Popkomm 2010 in Berlin.

With the second album Face It (2012), the band underlines their independence and the different facets of their sound. Playing with contrasts is a stylistic device regardless of the limits of musical genres.

The versatility is also reinforced by an internal band break, according to which the album was recorded with two drummers. After founding member Benny Musenbichler moved to Hamburg, Günther Paulitsch has been playing drums at Stereoface since summer 2011.

The album was recorded and produced by the London producer Clive Martin and was released in 2012 on the label moerdermusic by the musician Anna F. and distributed by Rough Trade.

Face It reached number 8 on the Itunes Alternative Charts; The first single from the album Distress ran in the 4th week after its release at number 12 in the FM4 charts.

After a long break and activity of the members in other projects (Polkov, Marta, Empty Lot, Lili, Tiger Family), the band released their third studio album JAWS on Phonotron in 2017 .

Singer Paul Pfleger is the son of Ewald Pfleger , guitarist of the band Opus .
