Stephen William "Steve" Hansen (born May 7, 1959 in Dunedin ) is a former New Zealand rugby player . He is the coach of New Zealand's national rugby team , the All Blacks.

Life

Between 1978 and 1987 he played 33 games in the first Australian rugby league, including 21 appearances for Canterbury . As game captain of the Marist, he led them to the "Christchurch Senior Club Title" in 1984. That was the Marist's first title since 1952.

He has been working as a trainer since 1997. His first coaching station was at Canterbury. There he trained the team until 2001.

From 2002 to 2004 he was the coach of the Welsh national team. He then moved back to New Zealand to the All Blacks, where he worked as an assistant coach alongside Graham Henry and Wayne Smith. From 2011, Steve Hansen was the head coach of the All Blacks. Under his leadership, New Zealand won the 2015 World Cup. After winning the bronze medal at the 2019 World Cup , his work with the All Blacks ended.
