R. Steven Kelly (born October 26, 1976 in Vancouver , British Columbia ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who was under contract with HDD Olimpija Ljubljana in the Austrian ice hockey league until October 2009 .
Career
After three years with the Prince Albert Raiders in the Western Hockey League , Kelly was selected by the Edmonton Oilers in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft . He stayed in Prince Albert for another year and shone there with over 100 points.
From the 1996/97 season he played for the Oilers, but was mostly used in the farm team. Even after his move to the Tampa Bay Lightning in late 1997 , that didn't change. His journey through the NHL led him to the New Jersey Devils and the Los Angeles Kings , but nowhere did he make the leap to become a regular. Kelly completed a total of 163 games in the National Hockey League and scored twelve goals.
In 2004 the striker moved from the Manchester Monarchs from the AHL to the German record champions of the German Ice Hockey League , the Adler Mannheim . A year later, Kelly switched to the Adler's arch-rival, the 2004 German champions, the Frankfurt Lions . The reason for this was the suspension of Kelly after an argument with the then Adler trainer Stéphane Richer . The Canadian striker with the number 19 signed a one-year contract in Frankfurt.
In the summer of 2007 he moved to the Minnesota Wild , but could not assert himself there in the training camp and had to join the American Hockey League with the Houston Eros , the farm team of the Wild. Before the 2008/09 season, Kelly moved to the Columbus Blue Jackets , but was unable to qualify there as in the previous year for the NHL squad and began the season with the Blue Jackets farm team, the Syracuse Crunch in the AHL. At the beginning of the 2009/10 season Kelly played at HDD Olimpija Ljubljana in the Austrian Ice Hockey League . After an injury early in the season, the Slovenes terminated the contract in October for financial reasons.
