Steve Lewis (musician)

Steve J. Lewis (born March 19, 1896 in New Orleans , † 1941 ) was an American jazz pianist and composer .

Live and act

Lewis worked with the Silver Leaf Orchestra and Armand Piron ; with Piron and Peter Bocage he performed at Tranchina's Restaurant for several years . In the mid-1910s he performed in the Storyville district with his own band, which also included Zutty Singleton . In 1917 he went on tour with a revue directed by Bill and Mary Mack. The following year he returned to New Orleans, where he worked again with Piron, with whom he also went to New York. He also played in the Olympia Orchestra .

Lewis, who also wrote songs like Kiss Me Sweet , took part in 15 recording sessions between 1923 and 1926, including a. with singer Willie Jackson . In the late 1920s he increasingly worked as a piano teacher and taught Luis Russell , among others .
