Career

After graduating from the University of Illinois , he became a professional golfer in 1990 . His most successful year on the PGA TOUR was initially in 1996, when Stricker won two titles, seven top 10 placements, and at the end of the season he took fourth place in the money list . His most valuable win to date was in 2001 at the WGC Accenture Match Play Championship , when he narrowly defeated the Swede Pierre Fulke in the final and was able to win $ 1 million in prize money. In the 2007 season, Stricker achieved his best place in the money list of the PGA Tour with second place, in 2009 he recorded three wins and third place in the final ranking of the FedEx Cup , as well as his financially most successful season with over $ 6 million in prize money.

He missed a major win in 1998 at the PGA Championship in second by two strokes against Vijay Singh . At the US Open , Stricker has made it into the top 20 six times, including a 5th place in 1999.

For the USA he won the Dunhill Cup in 1996 together with Phil Mickelson and Mark O'Meara and was part of the successful Presidents Cup team in the same year, as well as in 2007, 2009 and 2013 . In 2008 he played for the first time in the Ryder Cup team in the USA, which won its first cup since 1999.

Stricker achieved a novelty on July 10, 2011, when he won the John Deere Classic, a PGA TOUR tournament, in Silvis, Illinois, USA for the third time in a row since 2009.

Stricker is married to his wife Nicki, has one child, and lives in Madison , Wisconsin . Nicki was Steve's caddy until her daughter was born.

The game

Stricker is known not for its length, but for its precision. A special feature of his swing is that he hardly bends his wrist when swinging back, so he keeps the club more or less in line with his arms.
