Steven D. Ehrlich (* 1946 in New York City ) is an American architect .

Life

Steven Ehrlich studied at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy until 1969 . He then joined the Peace Corps and lived in North and West Africa until 1977. During this time he explored indigenous architecture. He taught at the Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria , Nigeria . In 1979 he founded his company SE Architects in Culver City , which in 1997 received the AIA's National Honor Award for Design three times.

Steven Ehrlich designs residential, commercial and public buildings. In addition to his stay in Africa, the study of Japanese architecture also had a formative effect on his projects.

Hempstead Residence, a single family home in Venice, dates back to 1990 . He also built the Friedman House in 1986, the Ehrman Coombs House in Santa Monica from 1989 to 1991 , and the Shulman House in Brentwood from 1989 to 1992. All of these homes are in Los Angeles . He also converted the Lewin house at 512 Ocean Front Walk in Santa Monica in 1998 . This house was planned by Richard Neutra in 1938 . It is an international style single-family home .

Ehrlich's better-known works include the Shatto Recreation Center in Los Angeles from 1991, the Sony Music Entertainment Campus from 1992/93, 2100 Colorado Avenue, in Santa Monica, Sony's Child Care Center in Culver City and the remodeling of a former auto repair shop from the 1930s , also in Culver City, in the game Show Network of Sony in 1995. It was followed by 1998, the Robertson Branch Library in Los Angeles and 2000, the Orange Coast College Art Center in Costa Mesa . Also important are the Bibliotheca Latinoamericana and the Washington Youth Center in San José from 1990.

Ehrlich buildings can also be found outside of America. For example, he planned the new “city gate” of Abuja in Nigeria and the New Moon Residence in the United Arab Emirates.

Awards

In addition to numerous national awards, Steven Ehrlich also received international awards, such as the 2009 Green Good Design Award for the 700 Palms Residence in Venice.
