The Steyr 870 is a tractor from the Steyr Plus series from Steyr Daimler Puch . It was built from 1971 to 1975.

In 1971, the existing Plus series with the types Steyr 30 , Steyr 40 , Steyr 50 , Steyr 70 and Steyr 90 was converted to three-digit type designations for marketing reasons and at the same time some changes were made, some of which also affected the performance. The new Steyr 870 therefore replaced the Steyr 70.

The water-cooled diesel engine of the type WD 410.40 with four cylinders and 3.983 l displacement had an output of around 51 kW (70 hp). The transmission from ZF Friedrichshafen had eight forward gears and four reverse gears, on request also up to 16 forward gears and eight reverse gears. The maximum speed was given as 27 km / h.

The tractor was available as the Steyr 870 in the rear-wheel version and as the Steyr 870 a in an all-wheel version. A cabin was available on request. A total of 3,360 copies of the Steyr 870 and Steyr 70 were sold, and just under 490 of the all-wheel drive versions 870 a and 70 a.

The body was designed by the French industrial designer Louis Lucien Lepoix .
