The Sankt Bernhard monastery is a former Cistercian convent in Sankt Bernhard-Frauenhofen in Lower Austria .

history

In 1277 the Cistercian convent was moved from Neumelon to “Chrueg im Pewreich am Teffenbach”, today's St. Bernhard. The founder was Stephan von Maissau , who was married to Margarete von Neuhaus . Her sister Maria was abbess of the St. Bernhard monastery in 1285.

In 1580 the monastery dissolved during the Reformation . In 1586 the abolished monastery and the property belonging to it were given to the Jesuit College in Vienna , after its abolition in 1773 it belonged to changing owners and partly fell into disrepair until it came to Klosterneuburg Monastery in 1852 after the death of Baron von Ehrenfels . In 1947 the church was renovated. In 1961 the chapter hall and the remains of the cloister were demolished and re-erected in Klosterneuburg Abbey.

For the former monastery church see parish church St. Bernhard Mariä Himmelfahrt.
