Stig Wetzell (born October 7, 1945 in Vaasa ) is a former Finnish ice hockey goalkeeper and Finnish national player.

He played for Upon Pallo from Lahti from 1967 to 1969 . Then he was at HJK Helsinki , with whom he became Finnish runner-up in 1972. He then moved to HIFK , with whom he won the SM-sarja in 1974 and the SM-liiga in 1980 and 1983 .

With the national team he took part in the 1972 World Cup and the 1972 Olympic Games , but where he had no missions. At the 1974 World Cup he tested positive for ephedrine and was excluded from the tournament. Wetzell and the Swede Ulf Nilsson , who also tested positive for ephedrine at this World Cup, were the first doping cases to be discovered in the history of the Ice Hockey World Championship. Both were banned from international games for 18 months after the tournament.

After the end of his career in 1983, his shirt number was blocked at HIFK . In 2004 he was inducted into the Finnish Ice Hockey Hall of Fame .
