Stigmus is a genus of digger wasps (Spheciformes) from the Crabronidae family. The genus is distributed worldwide, with the exception of Australia. There are 30 known species, eight of whichoccurin the Palearctic and two are also common in Europe.
features
The very small, black and almost hairless animals have a short abdomen stalk. The front wings have a very large wing mark that is almost as large as the marginal cell.
Way of life
Typically for the Pemphredoninae , the females build their nests in stems and abandoned drill holes in dead wood. The brood is supplied with aphids , which are grabbed with the mandibles in flight . The individual cells of the nests are separated from the corridor of the nest by gnawing off material.
