building
The station building was planned by the Stockholm architect Albin Stark and completed in 1931. Stark designed the counter hall on the ground floor to be circular; A restaurant on the first floor is visible from the hall, which can be reached via a narrow staircase. Stark covered the counter hall with a dome structure, which is linked to the roof dome structure of the cinema and theater building Chinateatern in Stockholm- Norrmalm , which he built between 1926 and 1928. The ceilings of both floors were decorated with paintings by the artist Ewald Dahlskog , which have been preserved as well as the original furnishings of the restaurant. Otherwise, the complex, which is now a listed building , consists of apartments, offices and shops.
Below the train station is the Tunnelbana station Tekniska Högskolan of Röda linjen , which bears the name of the nearby Royal Technical University , and the stadium is in the immediate vicinity of the train station. There is a bus terminal in front of the train station, where there are city-center buses, but also buses to the surrounding area of Stockholm, such as B. drive to Vaxholm , Norrtälje and Roslagen .
After the extension of the Roslagsbanan to T-Centralen, the station is to be abandoned. Construction will start in 2020.
