The cargo ship type B-430 , also B430 is a series cargo ship type of the Szczecin shipyard Stocznia Szczecińska im. A. Warskiego .

history

Aft of the Apapa Palm

The shipyard developed the ship type in the early 1970s. The ship series was built in 12 units from 1972 to 1980. Due to the further development during the current series, the series is divided into B430-I (6 units) and B430-7 (6 units). The construction program for this type of ship was almost completely ordered by a holding company of the Hamburg shipping company Harald Schuldt. The first ship in the series was the Schauenburg with hull number 242. The Monsun , built in 1973, was the only ship not directly ordered by Schuldt to be delivered to the shipping company Kommanditgesellschaft ZYKLON Schiffahrtsgesellschaft mbH & Co in Hamburg. The first six ships (B430-1) were ordered on a speculative basis and partly resold, partly bareboat chartered. Several shipping companies of the UKWAL (UK West Africa Line) consortium, such as the Palm Line , Elder Dempster Lines or the Nigerian National Shipping Line, operated or bought ships of this series, which are particularly suitable for the West African service.

Collision of the Sulpicio Express Siete

The last ship in the series delivered to the Harald Schult shipping company had a collision in the port of Cebu with the St. Thomas of ferry on the evening of August 16, 2013 as Sulpicio Express Siete of the Philippine Span Asia Carrier shipping company (formerly Sulpicio Lines ) from Cebu City Aquinas . The ferry that was hit then sank, killing a large number of passengers.

technology

The type B430 is a multipurpose dry freighter with aft superstructures, aft engine room and long forecastle . The ship's propulsion system consists of a type 6RND68 two-stroke diesel engine manufactured under a Sulzer license by H. Cegielski from Poznań. The motors produce 7286 kW and act directly on a fixed propeller with a speed of up to 150 revolutions per minute.

The four holds each have an intermediate deck and together have a bulk cargo volume of 19,121 m 3 and 17,274 m 3 of ball space. The hatch openings in rooms 2 to 4 are split in the middle and enable rapid cargo handling of the ship type, even if the cargo sections of the individual loading and unloading ports are split up several times. The hatches are closed by steel McGregor hatch covers . Opening and closing the hatches only takes a few minutes. The loading gear consisted of seven swing booms from the manufacturer McGregor / Hallen, each with a capacity of 36 tons.
