The Stolzenburg is the rest of a hilltop castle at 315  m above sea level. NN in the northern Palatinate near the municipality Bayerfeld-Steckweiler in the Donnersbergkreis in Rhineland-Palatinate .

history

The castle was first mentioned in a document from 1256. The builder of the castle is probably Raugraf Konrad III. from the Stolzenburg line. As a result of the Dhauner feud over the Schmidtburg , the Dhauner Wildgraf occupied the Stolzenburg for a short time. Already in 1358 the Stolzenburg line of the Raugrafen died out. The Lords of Bolanden appear as heirs . In the period that followed, more and more counts and lords became co-owners of the castle. So z. B. the Counts of Veldenz , Counts of Leiningen and Counts of Sponheim . In 1367 the Count Palatine became co-owners through purchase. The division into various ownership shares finally led to the destruction of the castle by Count Palatine Friedrich I in 1471 in the fight against Ludwig von Pfalz-Zweibrücken .

The remains of the castle are under the forest, about 50 meters northwest of the Stolzenberger Hof . The area is located at the edge of the valley on a cliff and has an area of ​​approx. 50 by 80 meters; it is separated from the rest of the mountain ridge by a section ditch in the south and north . There are hardly any remains of the wall.
