Straubhaus

The Strübhaus was probably built in the 14th century and is the original home and workshop of the Strüb family of artists . It forms an eye-catcher in the old town ensemble of Veringenstadt . In April 1972, the action group “Save the Strübhaus” prevented the building from being demolished. The action group renovated the building and developed it into a "House of Medieval Painting". The renovation of the building gave impetus to the state-wide "village development" in Baden-Württemberg . In the following decades, the action group with its Strübhaus developed into a living source of diverse urban planning and cultural commitments in the city of Veringen and the surrounding area.

Origins of the house around 1360

A Haintz Strüb is already mentioned in the deed of foundation of the St. Nicholas Chaplaincy in Veringenstadt from 1360. In an addendum to the same document, a Hans Strüb is also mentioned, "item hans Strüb has given to sant nicolaus 1 lock sinem nüwen hus located in siner hofraiti". The parlor is the oldest building in Veringenstadt after the Peterskapelle and Veringen Castle , before the town hall (around 1415).

The Strüb family's artist workshop

Members of the Strüb family lived in Veringenstadt at the foot of the Kirchberg from 1360 (or 1417) to 1540. The Strübhaus was the home and workshop of the Strüb family of artists. The actual artist family includes:

  • Peter Strüb the Elder

as well as his sons

  • Jakob Strüb
  • Hans Strüb
  • Peter Strüb the Younger

The family's artist workshop is also known as " Meister von Veringen ", while the brothers Hans and Jakob Strüb are also known as "Meister von Sigmaringen". Her works can be seen in churches in the vicinity as well as in domestic and foreign museums, among others in the Würth Collection, as well as in Mannheim, Berlin, Madrid and Warsaw. Altars by the masters of Sigmaringen-Veringen can be found in Sigmaringen, Inzigkofen, Heudorf and Kraków, for example.

Today the house houses a museum of medieval painting, in which the working methods of the painting art of the Strüb family are presented: the visitors experience the individual steps from the first rough drawing on the white primed spruce board to the application of the finest mineral paints in the Strüb workshop.

Between 1500 and 1535, the Strüb family of artists produced a total of 24 winged altars , two shrines , four individual pictures and other various fragments in 30 orders . Many pictures and carvings by the Strüb family are shown in the exhibition as photo reproductions and provide an overview of their work during the Renaissance - at the end of the Middle Ages and at the beginning of the modern era.

There is also an old kitchen with a brick stove, which is well worth seeing on the first floor. The development of the old half-timbered house over the past 40 years is shown in other rooms.
