The Dnipro Tram (until 2016: Dnipropetrovsk Tram ) is a tram company in the city of Dnipro in Ukraine . It was opened on June 26, 1897 and built by the Belgian company Tramways électriques d'Ekaterinoslaw as a meter-gauge railway. On that day, the company inaugurated three lines at the same time.
history
On April 21, 1906, another railway was opened through the city. In 1918 the two companies were merged into one company. By 1931, 177 vehicles had been purchased and the network expanded to 65 kilometers. From November 6, 1932, the first line converted to broad gauge was put into operation. These renovations were completed by 1948. A trolleybus line was inaugurated on November 7, 1947. To date, around 20 trolleybus routes have been put into operation. After the Second World War , almost all of the cars were replaced by Tatra trams . In 1996 a total of 400 vehicles carried around 115,000,000 passengers. A total of 19 tram lines are operated.
As in many other companies in Ukraine, the operating costs are not covered by the sale of tickets, so the state takes over the deficits. Around 70 percent of all passengers travel for free according to Ukrainian laws.
The seven and a half kilometer long metro , which opened on December 29, 1995, does not yet represent any serious competition for the tram. It is currently being extended by two stations.
In January 2013, 30 Tatra T6A2m were taken over from the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe .
