The Vinnytsia tram is a tram company in Vinnytsia , Ukraine . It was opened on October 28, 1913 and was built in meter gauge.

History until 2003

In 1955, 1958, 1963, 1966, 1968, 1977, 1986 and 1991, new route sections were opened to expand the network. Up to the beginning of the 1990s, the network was used by a total of nine lines.

In 2003 there were only four left of these. The 81 Tatra KT4SU vehicles that were delivered between 1980 and 1990 were used almost exclusively . Like almost all companies in Ukraine, the company operates with high deficits. Ticket sales only cover 50 percent of the costs. The fact that almost two thirds of all passengers are legally allowed to travel free of charge does the rest. The state compensates for the tram deficit.

More recent developments since 2007

In the years from 2007 to 2011, the Zurich public transport company donated a total of 110 40-year-old tram compositions of the types “ Karpfen ” and “ Mirage ” to Vinnytsia, as well as a few sidecars based on the Swiss standard car . Transport and commissioning was financed by the Federal State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO). Since then, only about 30 of the former 81 Tatra wagons are required for regular service.

Since the opening of a new connecting curve and Line 3 that runs over it in December 2015, six lines have been operated again. Today the network consists of a ring line with a longer outer branch in the east to the train station and a shorter south branch to the terminal "Elektromereża". Both connecting triangles are expanded in all directions. The lines currently run as follows:

  • Line 1: Elektromereża - train station
  • Line 2: Südring - Nordring
  • Line 3: Elektromereża - Südring
  • Line 4: Nordring - Bahnhof
  • Line 5: Elektromereża - Nordring
  • Line 6: Südring - Bahnhof
