Construction and equipment

Streichenkirche, nave and choir
Main altar

The construction of the flat-roofed, single-nave nave could go back to the end of the 13th century. The choir is closed on three sides, strongly drawn in and has a net vault , it was built around 1450. In the west the church has a roof turret . The baroque redesign was removed from 1943 to 1954, and the frescoes (actually Secco paintings ) were uncovered again. The church was completely renovated from 1993 onwards.

Two-row fresco cycles are in the choir, on the wall of the choir arch and in the eastern part of the nave walls. The choir depicts the life of Mary and the Passion of Christ as well as the Last Judgment. The fresco here dates from 1508 to 1513; it was painted over in 1597. The frescoes in the nave from around 1450 depict scenes from the legends of saints and from salvation events; they are assigned to the circle of Conrad Laib .

The high altar marked with the year 1524 was replaced by a baroque one in 1667, but re-erected in 1954. It has two fixed and two movable wings, a predella and a sprout . In the shrine there are carved figures of Saints Dionysius , Servatius and Wolfgang with their attributes . The wings contain u. a. eight passion paintings. The lamentation of Christ is depicted on the predella. There are other small carved figures in the crack (the risen Christ between Saints Florian and George ).

On the north wall of the choir arch there is a small box altar with a figure of St. Servatius, the folding wings are painted with depictions of saints in a soft style from around 1410. The former north side altar is attached to the south wall of the nave; it is marked with the year 1523, the back of the shrine (depicting the Man of Sorrows ) on the north wall. In his shrine there are carved figures of Saints Wolfgang, Maria Magdalena and Leonhard . On the north wall of the nave, the choir arch cross from the middle of the 17th century. There are also carved figures of Saints Peter and Nicholas (around 1440) on the north wall .

The windows of the choir contain two small glass paintings (St. Servatius and Enthroned Madonna), works from Salzburg from around 1440.

The choir stalls from around 1520 show a tendril ornament.

Appreciation

The church is a late Gothic total work of art that is impressive in terms of location and room atmosphere and extremely rare and well-preserved in terms of the abundance and quality of the furnishings (Dehio manual).

The figurative is mastered with very few means, restrained color values and expressive, supple contours (Schindler, Große Bavarian Art History, page 291).

Of course, one has to note that the current condition is the result of extensive restoration work and is therefore subject to a time-bound interpretation, which can already be seen from the juxtaposition of two actually contradicting furnishing phases from around 1440 and 1510/25.
