from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A scattered fruit , spring fruit or opening fruit is a fruit that usually opens through flaps or valves after the fruit has ripened and in this way releases and spreads its seeds directly . Mostly, scattered fruits have multiple or many seeds. The carpels are usually opened by turgor or swelling forces. It is spread via wind, water and other things.

Ripe poppy seed capsules release their seeds through movement of the wind.

The scattered fruits include

  • Capsule fruits , multi-seeded, several carpels
  • Pods , multi-seeded, upper ovary with two carpels, opening at the fusion seam
  • Follicles , multi-seeded, upper ovary with a carpel, opening at the ventral seam
  • Legumes , usually multi-seeded, upper ovary with a carpel, opening at the belly and back seam
