Stray crop
A scattered fruit , spring fruit or opening fruit is a fruit that usually opens through flaps or valves after the fruit has ripened and in this way releases and spreads its seeds directly . Mostly, scattered fruits have multiple or many seeds. The carpels are usually opened by turgor or swelling forces. It is spread via wind, water and other things.
The scattered fruits include
- Capsule fruits , multi-seeded, several carpels
- Pods , multi-seeded, upper ovary with two carpels, opening at the fusion seam
- Follicles , multi-seeded, upper ovary with a carpel, opening at the ventral seam
- Legumes , usually multi-seeded, upper ovary with a carpel, opening at the belly and back seam
