Common nut fruit

Common nuts are dummy fruits of nuts . Some genera of the rose family form common nut fruits:

• Strawberries : the nuts sit on the domed, fleshy flower base
• Rose hip with the roses : the nuts are enclosed by the fleshy, cup-shaped flower base

From a botanical point of view, these are therefore not berries , just like raspberries and blackberries , which are collective stone fruits .
