The Striehl'sche Waisenstiftung in Hanover was a foundation established in the middle of the 19th century , which is one of the most important in the history of the city of Hanover and lasted until the 1970s.

History and description

The Striehl Orphan Foundation was founded in January 1857 on the basis of a will from the Royal Hanoverian court carpenter Johann Heinrich Christian Striehl and his wife Charlotte, née Basse.

According to the deceased's order, the foundation served the “maintenance and upbringing of poor legitimate children of deceased citizens of the city of Hanover until their confirmation ”.

In accordance with the statutes , the respective Hanover city director or mayor and the chairman of the Hanoverian mayor council or city ​​council had a seat and one vote in the foundation, which is administered by a committee .

In 1874 the foundation had a capital of 190,000 thalers .

The foundation lasted until March 1973.
