Heinrich Striehl (also: Johann Heinrich Christian Striehl ; baptized 18th August 1770 in Hannover , † 2. July 1840 ) was a German court - carpenters , local politician and founder of the foundation of Striehlschen Orphans Foundation .

Born at the time of the Electorate of Hanover , Johann Heinrich Christian Striehl was first mentioned in the city of Hanover's address book from 1804 during the so-called French era as a "master carpenter", and in the early years of the Kingdom of Hanover from 1817 as a court carpenter .

In 1818 Striehl was still run alongside the master carpenter Johann Ludwig Weißhaar and Wilhelm Leopold as one of three “Hofbauamts-Ouvriers”.

After the old town of Hanover and Calenberger Neustadt had merged in accordance with the new city constitution in 1824, Striehl was elected one of the 36 district heads at the time , who were supposed to represent the interests of the citizens at the district level .

In 1838 Striehl was a court carpenter alongside the court mason and stone carver Ernst Ludwig Täntzel, one of two court building ouvriers in the Kingdom of Hanover .

Striehl was married to Charlotte , née Basse († July 2, 1852), with whom he had already drawn up a will on July 1, 1838 to establish a foundation . The Striehl'sche Orphan Foundation was established in January 1857 and in 1874 had a capital of 190,000 thalers . The foundation was one of the most important in the history of the city of Hanover and lasted until March 1973.

Honors

  • An honorary grave was set up in the Engesohde city cemetery for the founders of the foundation . It can be found today in Department 25D, grave number 23a – b
  • Köhnstrasse, which was laid out in 1860 in what is now Hanover's Mitte district , was renamed Striehlstrasse that same year .
