Strohschütz , Upper Sorbian , is a small settlement around one kilometer southwest of Milkwitz , a district of the Radibor municipality in the Bautzen district . It has about 10 inhabitants and is located on the northeastern edge of the 204.2 m high Red Mountain at about 190 meters above sea level. The millennium monument for the Slavic saints Cyrill and Methodius on the Via Regia is about 150 meters away at the Schmochtitz-Luga and Strohschütz-Löschau intersection. There is a cross stone on the street below the crossing area. Strohschütz can be reached via the S107 ( Göda- Radibor).
history
The Bauernweiler Strohschütz was first mentioned in 1419 as Stroschitz . The name probably comes from the Old Sorbian word for "guard", cf. Upper Sorbian straža and the related place name Wartha / Stróža . Stróžišćo would then be a place from which one can guard an area. This interpretation fits the geographical location of the settlement high up on a hill that overlooks the area.
The scientist Arnošt Muka counted 23 inhabitants in Strohschütz in 1884/85, all of whom were Sorbs without exception .
