The district is bounded in the north by Baisieper Straße, in the east the Baisiepen brook separates the Mixsiepen district. In the south, the border to the city of Wermelskirchen runs across the Eschbach and in the west, the local recreation area “Kuckuck” separates the Struck from the Falkenberg district.
history
Struck, "Land next to the bush on the ramp" was originally a court in old Hatzeland, which was first mentioned in 1621. Struck and Großberghausen, until then part of Wermelskirchen, were incorporated into Remscheid in 1873. The names "Hatzlangk" and "Hatzeland" are derived from the Hatzen (deer), as the area of the "Birgdener Gemarke" was "the hunting property of the Bergischen counts" before the 14th century because there was a lot of game there.
The turning hammer for the street Hatzelangk has a tram past . The route led to the Eschbachtalsperre , where it joined the existing railway from Wermelskirchen via Preyersmühle to Burg . In June 1900, the West German Railway Company started operating. In the last years of its existence, between 1962 and 1966, the Hatzelangk became the scheduled terminal. Cars only drove through to Mebusmühle on weekends in the summer months .
A special feature was the cable car built around 1929 to transport materials to the construction site of the motorway . It led from the dump site of the Bergische Stahl-Industrie (BSI) in the Blumental via Bliedinghausen, Falkenberg, Berghausen, Struck, Baisiepen to the Gleuel. The burnt-out molding sand was transported to secure the roadway, and it served many of the students of the "Strucker Eierkiste" as a school railroad.
Several houses were badly damaged by bombs and fires during World War II. Fortunately, many grenades hit the Beckerswiese and claimed no victims. Eyewitnesses report that towards the end of the war two-hulled lightnings flew individual fighter-bomber attacks on soldiers in the Eschbachtal. On Sunday, April 15, 1945, the Americans marched into Remscheid, coming from Wermelskirchen, via Intzestrasse. An hour and a half earlier, four soldiers resisting were shot dead. On the meadow opposite the house Intzestr. 168 long afterwards there were four wooden crosses.

Green spaces
The “Struck recreation area” is a twelve-hectare valley area from the upper reaches of the Baisiepen. Varied vegetation and a diverse animal world ensure an intense experience of nature.
The "Kuckuck" is a young, 5.2 hectare, green area, which is located in the upper reaches of the Berghauser Bach. The terrain is moderately inclined and continues with the open landscape. The "cuckoo" used to be a landfill. The upper part was called "Die Kipp". Around 1954, a motocross race took place here once , which caused a sensation beyond the borders of Remscheid.
leisure
The former youth home of the Johannes parish in Auguststrasse. 24 was reopened in March 2006 as "Bürgerhaus-Süd". Funded by membership fees and donors, volunteers and residents are developing a wide-ranging program.
regional customs
In the traditional parish carnival of the parish of Sankt Josef , the carnival greeting has been "Hatzelangk Miau!" Since the 1950s. Allegedly it goes back to the time immediately after the Second World War , when, due to the food shortage in Remscheid, and especially in the southern district with the street "Hatzelangk", cats repeatedly ended up in the saucepan.
