Filter feeder
As filter feeders are animals referred to their food ( detritus , plankton ) from the water filter .
Some, mostly sessile (stuck) species, are filtering suspension eaters . They feed by letting the suspension of water and the solid food particles contained in it flow through their sieve devices. Many species, called "strud (e) ler", actively generate a flow of water for this purpose. Others filter the water while swimming, such as the baleen whales , which feed on animal plankton ( krill ). Some species of birds, such as flamingos , filter the water with a cattle beak .
