Stuart Kershaw (born May 30, 1959 ) is a British drummer and songwriter .

Life

Kershaw joined Andy McCluskey in 1991 , who had retained the naming rights to Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark after the band broke up in the late 1980s . Together with McCluskey, he wrote five of the tracks on the Sugar Tax album , including the single Sailing on the Seven Seas , which reached top 10 positions in several European countries. On the following, less successful album Liberator, five tracks came partly from his pen, on Universal from 1996 there were three tracks.

When McCluskey started the girl band Atomic Kitten in 1998 , Kershaw stayed by his side. He was involved in eleven of the thirteen tracks on the debut album Right Now . After three of them were in the top 10 of the British charts ( Right Now , See Ya and I Want Your Love ), the band achieved their international breakthrough with Whole Again .

In the follow-up album, Kershaw was still involved in three titles, the third and so far last studio album of the band, he contributed no more songwriting. It was not until 2010 that OMD's next studio album, History of Modern, appeared, which has since returned to the classic line-up. Kershaw co-wrote the track Green with McCluskey and Paul Humphreys , this was his last contribution as a songwriter for the band. He also contributed the piano and the string arrangement. After Malcolm Holmes could no longer play the drums for health reasons in 2013, Kershaw took over this role on the band's live tours. In 2017 he played on The Punishment of Luxury for the first time as a drummer on an OMD studio album.
