The Student Yachting World Cup (former European competition) has been organized every year since 1976 by students from the Ecole Polytechnique . Every year it agrees the best sailing crews from universities around the world for existing sailing competitions.

When the race was established in 1979, only a few European countries took part. Since then, many countries have participated: Eastern Europe, Japan, USA and Australia, which makes the European race a real world championship.

Every year, the SYWoC takes a French port as its base (the previous editions took place in Lorient, Royan, Marseille, La Trinité, Toulon ...) for a whole week near All Saints' Day.

The 2006 edition took place in Lorient from October 28th to November 4th. Thirteen crews took part in an intense competition over a week, as well as parties that were just as memorable. The winner this year was Ireland with the crew Trinity College of Dublin .

In 2007, fifteen crews competed at SYWoC. The regatta took place in La Rochelle from October 27th and November 3rd . The winner was Switzerland with the crew of the l'Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne .
