The Sturgeon Lake ( Sturgeon is the English name for sturgeon ) is a lake in the northwest of the Canadian province of Ontario .
Sturgeon Lake is 80 km north of Ignace . The lake extends with a length of 59 km over the Kenora and Thunder Bay District . It is divided into a southern and a northern part and a narrower connecting piece. Its maximum width is 7.5 km. Sturgeon Lake has an area of 214 km². The deepest part of the lake, near the southern end of the lake, measures 93 m. The lake is drained by the Sturgeon River in a westerly direction to the Marchington River and English River . At the northern end of the lake is the Savant Lake (Sturgeon Lake) Water Aerodrome . O'Brien's Landing is at the southern end of the lake. The Ontario Highway 599 runs in parts west along the lake.
Sturgeon Lake is considered good fishing water. The following types of fish are caught in the lake: eyeglasses , pike , American char and herring vendace .
