The Stux or Stuxberg is a rocky hill above Unkel - Heister , from which the view opens up over the Rhine valley near Unkel. It is located in the Rhine-Westerwald Nature Park in northern Rhineland-Palatinate and is therefore part of the slate mountains on the right bank of the Rhine . At the foot of the Stux is the Stux waterfall to the north, directly on the L252 in the Hähnerbachtal, which arises from a junction of the Hähnerbach .

The Stux is geologically interesting because the layered sedimentary rock in the “Unkeler fold” is clearly visible here . The sediment deposits of a former ocean consist of limestone shale in mostly horizontal, but sometimes also vertical stratification and are around 325 million years old. They were created when the continents Laurussia and Gondwana collided .

Today the lower area of the Stux is used for viticulture , partly in terrace cultivation . The Stux belongs to the Middle Rhine wine-growing region .

The Rheinsteig long-distance hiking trail has been leading directly over the Stux since 2005 .

At the top there is a radio broadcasting mast of the Südwestrundfunk (SWR) , on which transmitters of various cellular networks are attached.
