Anton Cottier (born December 4, 1943 in Jaun ; † November 3, 2006 , entitled to live in Jaun) was a Swiss politician ( CVP ).

Anton Cottier was born on December 4, 1943 in Jaun, the only German-speaking Gruyère community. He grew up bilingual, German and French. After studying law at the University of Freiburg , Cottier took up the profession of lawyer in 1973 and joined the Christian Democratic People's Party (CVP) in the same year.

1976–1987 he was on the Grand Council of the Canton of Friborg . From 1987 to 2003 he was on the Council of States , in 2002 as its President. From 1982 to 1991 Cottier was also a member of the government of the city of Freiburg and was head of the police department. 1994–97 he was President of CVP Switzerland.

On November 3, 2006, Cottier died of cancer. He was married and had three children.
