Franz Josef Kurmann (born July 18, 1917 in Alberswil ; † October 18, 1988 in Willisau Land ; resident in Alberswil) was a Swiss politician ( Conservative-Christian Social People's Party ).

biography

Kurmann attended the secondary school of the Einsiedeln collegiate school . He studied law and economics at the universities of Friborg , Lausanne and Geneva ; In 1943 he received his doctorate . From 1945 he worked as an independent lawyer . From 1947 to 1952 he was managing director of the Luzerner Bauernhilfskasse and from 1952 to 1977 he was editor of the " Willisauer Boten ". From 1940 member of Switzerland. Student association, 1973–87 President of Switzerland. Catholic press association, several board memberships.

From 1956 to 1964 Kurmann was President of the Conservative Party of the Canton of Lucerne , from 1960 to 1968 a member of the governing committee and Vice President of the Conservative-Christian-Social People's Party of Switzerland and from 1968 to 1973 he was President of the Conservative-Christian-Social People's Party of Switzerland, which is today CVP . From 1955 to 1959 he was a member of the Lucerne Grand Council and from 1955 to 1971 he sat in the National Council , which he presided over in 1965 .

Kurmann was an excellent expert on agricultural policy and also specialized in foreign trade policy and road construction financing . His outstanding political achievement was the CVP party reform of 1970/1971. Under Kurmann's leadership, the party opened up and called itself " Christian- Democratic " instead of " conservative ".
