Eduard Guntli

Eduard Guntli (born July 23, 1872 in Altstätten ; † December 8, 1933 in Bern ; resident in Vilters ) was a Swiss lawyer and politician ( Conservative People's Party ).

Life

Guntli attended primary and secondary school in Altstätten , then the grammar school in Engelberg . He studied in Feldkirch philosophy and in Munich , Strasbourg and Bern law , which he in 1897 a doctorate . From 1898 to 1901 he worked as an intern in a law firm in St. Gallen and from 1901 as an independent lawyer in St. Gallen.

From 1912 to 1933 Guntli sat in the St. Gallen Grand Council and from 1928 to 1933 in the National Council for the Conservative People's Party . From 1919 to 1927 he was President of the cantonal and from 1932 to 1933 President of the Swiss Conservative People's Party, today's CVP .

Guntli campaigned for Switzerland to join the League of Nations and tried to build a bridge to the French- speaking countries in the National Council . Within the party, he sought a balance between conservatives and Christian socialists. In the Swiss Army he was a lieutenant colonel in the infantry.
