Sub Command is a submarine - Simulation of 2001 and successor of the game 688 (i) Hunter Killer , developed by Sonalysts , and published by Electronic Arts .

Gameplay

The player can choose from three real existing submarine types. These are the Los Angeles-class and the Seawolf-class on the United States Navy side and the Akula-class submarines on the Russian side . The predecessor was 688 (I) Hunter / Killer , the successor is called Dangerous Waters .

Apart from a collapsible, small window in which the selected target is displayed, the game works entirely without 3D graphics. Sub Command runs in real time, but can be accelerated in five stages up to eight times the speed of time.

The player switches between eight controllable stations. These are the command center (the speed and course can be determined here), sonar , radar , electronic combat control (this is where radar signatures from other ships and aircraft can be picked up and messages from a satellite can be loaded), target motion analysis (here the player has to enter Grasp the target correctly before he can fire a torpedo), torpedo room , map and periscope . The player can man all these stations himself; however, the sonar and the TMA are simulated in great detail, which makes operation very complex (for example, the player sees a frequency line of a ship on a waterfall display ). He then has to assign this to a ship class using the narrowband sonar, and then determine the speed of the ship using the number of strokes of the propeller. Optionally, an expert crew can help the player with the operation.

Missions

There are three (semi-dynamic) campaigns of 14 missions each, the Seawolf campaign being exactly the same as that of the Los Angeles class. The missions on the Russian side are often a mirror image of the US Navy missions, which should increase the replay value. The missions range from simply listening to enemy submarines to salvaging a satellite and destroying an enemy fleet. Most of the time, just one goal is enough to get ahead in the campaign. The more goals you complete, the easier the subsequent missions will be.

In addition, there are single player missions in which the player has to identify and sink a certain ship, for example, or damage and sink as many ships as possible in a short time.

Sub Command contains a multiplayer mode in which several submarine captains fight together or against each other. Time acceleration is deactivated here.
