Subrata Pal , also known as Subrata Paul , (born December 24, 1986 ) is an Indian soccer player and plays for Mumbai City FC in the Indian Super League , as well as in the Indian national team as a goalkeeper.

Career

Despite his young age, he is already considered one of the best goalkeepers in Asia. His career began with a tragedy. In the final of the Indian Federation Cup 2004 against Dempo SC , the goalkeeper clashed with the Brazilian striker Cristiano de Lima , who collapsed after his goal to make it 2-0 and died. As a result of the fatal accident, Subrata Pal was banned from the All India Football Federation for two months.

In the following years, Subrata Pal became a strong support for his club Mohun Bagan AC , in 2006 they celebrated victory in the Federation Cup and his achievements brought him to the Indian national football team for the first time in 2007 . In the same year, the goalkeeper moved to the East Bengal Club , with which he won the Federation Cup in 2007 and was voted India's goalkeeper of the year . Thanks to its outstanding parades, India won the AFC Challenge Cup in 2008 , which meant that the national team was also able to qualify for the 2011 Asian Cup for the first time in 24 years. Subrata Pal also won the Nehru Cup with the national team in 2007, 2009 and 2012.

In 2009, the much-advertised goalkeeper moved to the I-League promoted Pune FC .

In July 2012, Subrata Pal stayed for a trial training at RB Leipzig , but received no contract.

After being under contract with Prayag United from 2012 to 2014 , he moved to Danish first division club FC Vestsjælland in January 2014 . There he only played in the reserve team.

In summer 2014 he moved to Mumbai City FC.
