Subrata Sarker

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Subrata Sarker is a Bangladeshi marine biologist , climatologist and university professor .

Career

Subrata Sarker graduated from the Faculty of Marine Science and Fisheries at the University of Chittagong , graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in 2009 and a Master of Science in 2010 . In 2014 he completed postgraduate studies at the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research (AWI) in Bremerhaven and received his doctorate in 2018 from Jacobs University Bremen . The subject of his dissertation was the dynamics of the phytoplankton in the German Bight and the analysis of data from the Biological Institute Helgoland determined over long periods of time . The aim was to identify and study long-term patterns in phytoplankton and environmental parameters in the North Sea. As a result, it was found that the species richness of the phytoplankton is higher in stable ecosystems, while strong fluctuations in the natural conditions reduce the species richness.

During his studies, Sarker dealt with ecological issues such as the destruction of mangrove forests, ocean acidification and climate change and its effects on fisheries and ecosystems, particularly in Bangladesh. He was the co-author of two first descriptions of fish: a catfish from the genus tube-gill catfish and a Nanderbarsch , both from the Noakhali district , Chittagong division . Sarker's recent research is on climate change. Sarkar is an Assistant Professor at the Shahjalal University of Science and Technology in Sylhet .
