The dam Quebrada de Ullúm ( Spanish Represa Quebrada de Ullúm or Spanish Dique Quebrada de Ullúm ) is a dam with hydroelectric power station in the province of San Juan , Argentina . It dams the Río San Juan to a reservoir ( Spanish Embalse Quebrada de Ullúm ). The Punta Negra dam is about 15 km to the west, the provincial capital San Juan about 20 km southeast of the Quebrada de Ullúm dam.

The dam is used for both power generation and irrigation. The construction of the dam was completed in December 1980. It is owned and operated by Energia Provincial Sociedad del Estado (EPSE).

Barrier structure

The barrier structure is a rubble dam with a height of 67 m above the foundation level . The top of the dam is at a height of 777 m above sea level . The length of the dam crest is 300 m or 350 m. The volume of the barrier structure is 4 million m³. The dam has a flood relief system that can drain a maximum of 2560 m³ / s.

Reservoir

With a maximum storage target of 768 m, the reservoir extends over an area of around 31 km² and holds 440 million m³ of water - 391 million m³ of this can be used to generate electricity.

power plant

The power plant's machine house is at the foot of the dam on the left. The installed capacity is 44 MW . The average annual production is given as 172 million kWh . The power plant went into operation in 1988.

The Kaplan turbine has a maximum output of 42.3 MW and the generator 50 MVA . The nominal speed of the turbine is 176.5 min ⁻¹ . The nominal voltage of the generator is 13.2 kV . In the switchgear , the generator voltage is increased from 13.2 kV to 132 kV by means of a power transformer.

The fall height is 44 m. The maximum flow is 105 m³ / s.
