The Good Sam 500 is one of two NASCAR Sprint Cup races held annually at Phoenix International Raceway in Avondale , Arizona . The other race is the Checker Auto Parts 500 . It was first played on April 23, 2005. The race was called "Subway Fresh Fit" because Subway was already a sponsor of another NASCAR race, the Subway 500 at Martinsville Speedway . The number in the race name results from the approximate number of kilometers to be driven.
