Avondale is a city in Maricopa County in the US state of Arizona , United States . It is between Interstate 10 and Arizona State Route 85 .
In the urban area is the Phoenix International Raceway (PIR), a car racing track on which, among other things, several NASCAR series car races are held every year .
Immediately to the southwest, the Phoenix Goodyear Airport borders the city, where Lufthansa (since 1970) has trained its young pilots. Furthermore, the Luke Air Force Base is north of the city .
