Sujit Kumar

Sujit Kumar (born February 7, 1934 , † February 5, 2010 in Mumbai ) was an Indian film actor and director. In the 1960s to 1990s he was a busy supporting actor in Hindi films , and was also one of the stars of the Bhojpuri cinema.

Life

Sujit Kumar comes from a village near Varanasi . He began his career in 1960 and appeared in low-budget thrillers such as Ek Saal Pahele (1965) and Lal Bangla (1966) in the 1960s . In 1968 he was seen as a spy in Ramanand Sagars Aankhen . He often played alongside Rajesh Khanna , in one of his most famous roles as a harmonica-playing driver in Aradhana (1969). In the 1970s he also appeared in films with Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra several times . He was at home in the comic role subject, but also played film villains.

In 1963, Sujit Kumar made his first appearance in Bidesia in a Bhojpuri film, a variant of Hindi spoken in eastern Uttar Pradesh and in Bihar . Kumar became one of the stars of Indian film in that language. In the first color film in Bhojpuri, Dangal (1977), he brought the Bhojpuri film back to life with the song Kashi hile, Patna hile, Kalkatta hilela . In 1984 he directed Paan Khaye Saiyan Hamaar himself.

In his acting career he starred in over 170 films. He died of cancer at the age of 75.
